Together with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, skilled musicianship and the anointing of God are a potent mix. When a Believer mixes prayer and good discipline intheir guitar playing something of God's excellence and power is released that changes lives.
Throughout the Scriptures we see how God has used the worshippers to bring His presence and His glory, and to bring confusion to the enemies of God's people. The account of Jehoshaphats army in 2 Chronicles 20 is particularly inspiring!
Worshipping God involves the entire being
As you develop your skill you will become less conscious of what you are doing with the instrument and more conscious of God and His presence. The guitar will become an extension of your inner self – reaching out to God, and drawing others into His presence with you. This a such a key that some musicians spend hours every day honing their skills. This cannot be just for the public however. We strive for excellence to minister to the audience of one – Worship guitar and high praise in the presence of God alone.
Some suggestions to help you become the musician God intends you to be
Here are two essential things I recommend to all musicians and guitarists as they go forward in worship.
1. take time to pray and read the word. Proverbs tells us that the issues of life flow from the heart – from the inner man. We need to be filled with His Spirit and in close fellowship with Him if we want our worship to really hit the mark.
2. Look for ways to develop your gift and perfect your skills. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro, there are always new licks and fresh rhythms to find and share with the world. After all, our God is the Creator, and you are made in His image. Keep stretching yourself, you will surprised what you can do!
