Paisley has pulled stunts on Kellie Pickler, Chuck Wicks, Jewel and more over the last couple years, but Jimmy Wayne isn't letting Paisley's long list of punkees intimidate him. “People have been warning me so it's gonna have to be a mighty big prank,” Wayne recently said of his upcoming stint on Paisley's American Saturday Night Tour, “I've got my guard up and I'm looking out.”
While Paisley is known for pulling fast ones on several of his touring comrades, one of the greatest pranks on tour came when Jewel and Chuck Wicks decided to prank Mr. Trickster himself. Last fall, Paisley stepped off his private jet in Nashville and was “arrested” by two retired policemen Jewel had hired, telling the “Start a Band” vocalist that he was under arrest for involvement in “serious crimes.” After loading a panic-stricken Paisley into a cop car, the officers explained he was under arrest for “excessive noodling,” after which Paisley admitted it was the best prank he's ever had.
Several months prior to this incident, opening acts Kellie Pickler and Taylor Swift also decided to punk Paisley, as well, dressing up in brown body suits as ticks (calling themselves “Taylor Tick” and “Kellie Tickler”) while other opening act Jack Ingram dressed up as an exterminator, the three artists running onstage unannounced during Brad Paisley's performance of his No. 1 hit song “Ticks” and dancing to the music.
After the incident, Paisley was a good sport about the prank, saying, “I was, first of all, just hoping that no one thought that was part of the show.” Country music fans with Brad Paisley tickets to an upcoming stop on the American Saturday Night Tour can expect much of the same prankster antics, this time with both Jimmy Wayne and Dierks Bentley.
Long before he made a name for himself as the ultimate prankster, Brad Paisley spent his youth growing up in West Virginia, given his first guitar at age eight and unknowingly paving a path for his future. Paisley, now known for his incredible songwriting talents and guitar-strumming skills, started penning his own material at age 12, jumping into the spotlight for the first time when he was invited to make a cameo on the Wheeling station WWVA's Saturday night broadcast Jamboree USA. The show was a smashing success, and Paisley spent the next several years as an opening act for big-name artists, next attending Nashville's famed Belmont University before diving head-first into recording demos for record companies.
Paisley crashed onto the Nashville music scene in 1999 when he released his debut solo album Who Needs Pictures via Arista. The album produced his first two No. 1 singles, “He Didn't Have to Be” and “We Danced,” and subsequent singles such as “I'm Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin' Song)” and “Wrapped Around” gave Paisley a reputation around music City for being one of the most clever songwriters in the business.
Every album Paisley has released since 2004 has hit number one on the Billboard charts, and this country music icon has most recently seen chart-topping success with singles “Online,” “Ticks,” “I'm Still a Guy,” “Start a Band” and “Waitin' on a Woman.” Tickets to Paisley's current American Saturday Night Tour, which starts Friday in Charlotte, N.C. and ends in mid-October in West Palm Beach, FL, are available online.
