Choosing the right EOS digital camera
Posted on July 16, 2009 - Filed Under Arts & Entertainment
The Canon EOS digital SLR camera range contains a diverse range of models. Choosing the right type of Canon EOS DSLR camera will depend on a few fundamental factors:
Photography Skill
As a general rule, the smaller the model number is, the more professional the EOS camera. For example, the EOS 450D, 500D or 1000D are ideal for entry-level photographers upgrading from compact cameras. They offer excellent quality shots and are very easy to use.
The 40D, 50D and 5D Mark II are great for amateur photographers and serious enthusiasts. Compared to the beginner range, they have faster shutter speeds, more robust bodies and better image quality. Finally the EOS-1D Mark III and EOS-1Ds Mark III are for true professionals. These are a standard for many professionals around the world because of their outstanding durability and superior image quality. Know your own photography skill levels and choose the right model accordingly.
Accessories
What type of lenses and flash units is the camera body compatible with? Even entry-level cameras like the Canon EOS 450D are compatible with over 60EF/EF-S lenses and all EX Series Speedlite flash units. Budget for accessories (tripod, lenses and flash) if creative digital photography is a serious pursuit. If not, 'enthusiast kits' - which usually include starter lens and a camera body - are great options for beginners.
Frame rate and Continuous Shooting
Unless there is a real intention to pursue a photojournalism, action or sports photography career (requiring a digital camera with at least 8 frames per second, or continuous shooting of at least 40 shots), a digital camera with 3fps and a burst rate of at least 6 shots will suffice for beginners and amateurs.
