A Big Dream

Arnold was born on July 30, 1947 in a small second floor apartment of a large house in an isolated village in Austria. Growing up the second of two sons, his abusive father made it clear that he favored the older brother and beat and taunted Arnold often calling him "Cinderella." Following their father's lead, Arnold's older brother constantly picked on him.

Because of the verbal, emotional and physical abuse, young Arnold dreamed of getting away from his family and becoming strong, rich and famous. His dream revolved around leaving not only his family, but his country as well. "I love Austria and love the Austrian people. But I always knew that America was the place for me. In school, when the teacher would talk about America. . . I would daydream about living there. I would sit. . . and watch for hours American movies, transfixed by my heroes like John Wayne. Everything about America seemed so big to me, so open, so possible."

How to be Free - Part One Financial Freedom

Posted on July 6, 2009 - Filed Under Self Improvement | Leave a Comment

I adore my freedom. In fact, I would go so far as to say it is my most important value. I agree with Christopher Morley who said, “There is but one success - to be able to spend your life in your own way.” This, to me, is freedom.

I also think America is a country that allows you to be free. That, in fact, America was founded on the principle of freedom. But too many people here feel they aren't free. And it seems to me they are turning to the wrong places to be set free. They seem to the think the government will set them free or their spouse will set them free or society will set them free or their parents will set them free or their church will set them free. Here's the deal, people - only one person can set you free - and that person is you.

The Best Way to Recover Your Peace of Mind

Posted on July 5, 2009 - Filed Under Self Improvement | Leave a Comment

No matter how hard you work or how motivated you are, sooner or later, bad luck is going to hit you. Otherwise, someone acting negligently or mistakenly might cause your misfortune. Some people are victims of a general shift in the economy, others of a car accident. Adversity just happens.

Recovering your peace of mind when life turns for the worse is a major achievement. Difficult periods test the validity of your personal philosophy and rightly so. Can your convictions help you regain serenity? Are you able to face a painful loss without giving up hope for the future?

Many books recommend naive optimism and groundless enthusiasm as psychological defences, but none of them works for long. The human mind cannot sustain effectively beliefs that are not anchored in reality. Self-manipulation, instead of creating joy, leads to bitterness and confusion.

Persuasive Writing: How to Harness the Power of the Story

Posted on June 28, 2009 - Filed Under Self Improvement | Leave a Comment

Most people love stories for entertainment"we go to the movies to watch stories, we read novels before bed, and we share our own stories with friends. But aside from the entertainment value, storytelling is a powerful marketing and selling technique that you can use for business-related writing projects. And by understanding how stories work, you can engage your readers and teach them with examples that illustrate your ideas.

What Makes Stories so Effective?
Stories work well because they SHOW readers what you want them to understand, rather than TELL them. That means your readers will picture whats happening in their minds. This can be quite powerful if youre trying to teach them a new skill or make the case for an argument. Plus, people remember stories for longer and if the story is particularly memorable, they might share it with someone they know and pass the word along about the solutions you can offer.

Entertainment for Small Children

The Gold Coast would not be the same without it's many theme parks. With so many to choose from, it's hard to know which ones are better for the younger children, and some frankly are better than others. Sea World is by far the best for the little ones. The dolphin show alone will amaze them, but it is Sesame street Beach that they will love the most. The adventurous preeschoolers will love to ride the Vikings Revenge Canoe ride, and for the not so scared little ones they can enjoy the bermuda triangle ride. Ray reef is another of the many kid friendly activities at Sea World where they can touch the rays and view sharks in Shark Bay.

WakeUpLive.com presents: “Passion for Your Purpose…and the Freedom to be Who You Are”

Posted on June 24, 2009 - Filed Under Self Improvement | Leave a Comment

By design we are as unique and individual as snowflakes. Even if you are an identical twin there will never be another person who is just like you. Though there are treasure maps hidden in the very structure of your body proclaiming who you are and how you will experience your world, you must have the courage to follow the wisdom that has been handed down from antiquity. This message was so important that the ancient Greek aphorism gnothi seauton (know thyself) was inscribed in golden letters at the lintel of the entrance to the temple of Apollo at Delphi. You must know who you are, how you think, why you react, and what motivates you before you can begin to know others.

A Child’s Peace Poem

Posted on June 20, 2009 - Filed Under Self Improvement | Leave a Comment

Through reviews of her lovely books, I have become email friends with one of our national treasures, Ruth Gendler. Part of the service she performs for humanity is in our schools. She brings her artistry into classrooms and inspires the talents and imaginations of our youth who, in my opinion, sorely need it.

One of Ruths delicious books is called The Book of Qualities. It inspires me and it inspires her work in the schools. Children write what Ruth calls, Qualities. Knowing of my commitment to peace, Ruth sent me this poem by third-grader Alex Trux. She was writing on the quality of Peace. We have permission from Alexs mother to quote her astonishing writing.
